Procedure for the Reclaim of Unclaimed Balances and Other Financial Assets

Here is the procedure for reclaiming unclaimed balances in accordance with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) circular on the Management of Dormant Accounts, Unclaimed Balances and Other Financial Assets.

Procedure

  1. The Customer accesses the list of unclaimed balances transferred to CBN on the websites of Fidelity Bank, CBN and/or newspaper publications.
  2. The Customer then obtains an “Asset Reclaim Form” at any of Fidelity Bank’s branches.
  3. The Customer then provides the following:
    • Evidence of account ownership
    • Valid means of identification.
    • Evidence of present place of residence (Recent Utility Bill)
    • Affidavit on the accuracy of the information to reactivate the account.
    • Duly completed Asset Reclaim Form.
  4. Fidelity Bank will verify the claim and initiate the request with supporting documents to CBN within ten (10) working days from date of receipt of the claim For Individual Accounts.
  5. For Corporate Accounts,
    • Fidelity Bank will initiate a search at a fee as prescribed in the CBN guide to Bank Charges 2020.
    • Upon receipt of a satisfactory search report, Fidelity Bank will verify the claim and initiate the request with supporting documents to CBN within ten (10) working days from date of receipt of the search report.
  6. CBN shall refund the unclaimed Balance to the customer’s account through fidelity Bank within (10) ten working days from the date of receipt of Fidelity Bank’s request.
